Botswana
Botswana safari - Botswana offers some of the best safari vacations in Africa. From the Okavango Delta to Chobe & the Kalahari, we have a memorable safari package for you.
Over the years, Botswana has become the safari destination of choice due to the large numbers of wildlife found there and the fact that these numbers are growing every year. Botswana has the largest density of elephants and lions in Africa.
Botswana is a land-locked country bordered by Namibia in the north and west, Zimbabwe & Zambia in the northeast, and South Africa in the south.
Botswana has one of the lowest population densities in the world, and with its exclusive tourism policies, the wilderness attractions are largely unspoiled and uncrowded, promising an unparalleled African adventure experience.
The northwest region is the most interesting and sought after by wildlife explorers as it is here that the Okavango River drains inland to form the Okavango Delta which is the largest inland delta in the world. Wildlife is prolific here as the animals come to drink from the waters.
On the eastern fringe of the Delta lies the Moremi Game Reserve which is the ultimate African safari destination and is famous for its beauty. Chobe National Park (including the Savuti region) is situated in the north of Botswana and is famous for having the highest concentration of elephants in the world.
You can also visit the second largest game reserve, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve or experience the isolation and other-worldliness of the Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans – uninhabited pans situated east of the Delta.
Other places of interest include the Kgalagadi, Tuli Block, and Mashatu.
Horse riding safaris are becoming more popular in Botswana and cater to all levels of riders.
Botswana straddles the “Tropic of Capricorn” and experiences extremes in temperatures. Days are normally clear, warm, and sunny but the nights range from cool to cold. Botswana is primarily a dry country, but a summer rainy season lasts from November to March. During this season, days are normally sunny with short, abrupt rainstorms which normally clear within hours. From late May to August rain is rare anywhere in the country.
When to visit Botswana:
Generally, the southern hemisphere winter months (April to October) are the best time to visit Botswana as this is usually the dry season when the animals congregate around permanent water holes.
The peak season in Botswana is July to October when it can be very difficult to find accommodation so booking well in advance is recommended. Rates are at their highest at this time. But October can be exceptionally hot (waiting for the rains to arrive) - it is sometimes called 'Suicide month'!!
November to March is the hottest time and the 'wet' or 'green' season' and some camps and roads become inaccessible. This is the best time for birding enthusiasts and usually offers discounted rates. Although this is called the 'wet season', rain is typically in the form of quick thunderstorms, which usually occur in the late afternoon and last about an hour or so.
